Let’s Stay Here Tonight

One aspect of the trip that keeps it interesting is not knowing where you are to stay day to day.  We can be off grid so our options are vast, but you still have to land someplace before sunset.  Here are all the places we camped and stayed on the journey.  Enjoy!

Pete’s Camp – San Felipe

1/7/24:  Playa Punta Final – Windy and Cold!!

1/8/24:  Tony’s Place (Pacific Side 20 mi north of Guerrero Negro – fresh lobster!) – we did not get many photos from here – likely due to crazy winds.

1/9/24:  San Ignacio – cute oasis on road to Mulege – we did do a hotel here on the way to Mulege as it was getting dark and driving on raids down here at night is a literal death sentence.  But super cute town.

1/10-12:  Mulege

Playa Cocos was a recommendation we got at a local brewery.  We spent a few nights and could have spent a month.

1/12 – Loreto

We stayed in the Oasis Hotel on the beach to be with Tracy’s mom and sis Steph.  Couple of nights catching up and eating some great food.

1/13-14 – Puerto San Carlos

No beach camping here as it is a lil port town that lives off fishing, whale watching and some shipping.  We stayed at a very new place on the water a couple is in the process of opening – they were great to us but I don’t think the hotel actually had a name yet??  Whale watching in Isla de Magdalena from here is great.

1/15 – Cactus-Moss Forest

We headed down a dirt part of the Baja 1000 trail headed towards Todos Santos a few hundred miles away.  The road was a relentless series of “whoop-di-do’s” spaced about 10’ apart.  Slowed us down but we camped in a cactus-moss forest that was spectacular.

1/16 – Cactus Overlook

We broke off the “whoop-di-do”trail after about 50 miles and made a bee line for Todos Santos – but needed to stop for the night along the way.  We found a great camp spot overlooking a gorgeous cactus valley and had a great sunset

1/17 – Los Cerritos Playa – Beach Lot

We hit Los Cerritos Beach just south of Todos Santos for a night – campground was in a beach parking lot and while having a beach bar 300’ away was nice-it wasn’t the vibe we were looking for – So no pics!  🙂

1/18-19/24 – Los Cerritos Beach Overlook

1/20/24 – West Cape Baja Sur – Playa Jimi

1/21-22/24 – Cabo San Lucas

We had some meetings to take care of these days so we grabbed a VRBO outside Cabo to take care of meetings and get some much needed repair work done on the trailer.  Many thanks to the team at PURO 4×4 for rebuilding the trailer frame to insure the trailer can make the rest of the trip

( trailer pics?)

1/23-24/24 – Cabo Pulmo National Parque

1/25-26/24 – Los Barrilles Park

1/27/24 – Peace Center Campground-Hostel in downtown La Paz

We are meeting up with some new folks to stay with us for a week so we picked them up at the airport in San Jose-Cabo and met in La Paz before heading out to some beach camping,

1/28-1/30/24 – Playa Muertocitos and Playa Saltitos –

Segment 2: Colombia to Peru

The 2nd leg of our trip starts on 5/29-30/24 when Matt and John return to Panama City to get rigs inspected and shipped over to Cartegena, Colombia.  The whole process should take about 2-3 weeks and so we should be ready to leave Cartegena around 6/19-21.

WELL – WE DECIDED IT IS A BIT REDUNDANT TO POST MOSTLY THE SAME PICS IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WEBSITE – SO ALL PHOTOS FOR SEGMENT 2 AND 3 CAN BE FOUND UNDER THE COUNTRY SECTIONS
